HOW TO FLY A HELICOPTER

But before talking about how to control a helicopter, do you know who first flew the helicopter

Who was the first man to fly a helicopter?

Nowadays, tens of thousands of helicopters fly the world’s skies, and the specifications and design of nearly all of them implement a single rotor in combination with an antitorque tail rotor.

HE was IGOR SIKORSY , a Russian-American aviator pioneer in both rotary and fixed-wing aircraft.

Let’s comeback to the main question

So, there are three main controls in a helicopter which are used by the pilot in order to operate a helicopter as:

  • CYCLIC STICK
  • ANTI-TORQUE PEDALS
  • COLLECTIVE LEVER

There is also a throttle control but it is present on the collective lever in most of the single engine helicopters.

let’s discuss about these controls

CYCLIC STICK:

The cyclic control on a helicopter is a type of control stick that is typically located between the pilot’s legs. It is used to control the helicopter’s pitch and roll, allowing the pilot to move the helicopter forward, backward, left, and right. By tilting the cyclic control in different directions, the pilot can change the pitch of the main rotor blades, which in turn changes the direction in which the helicopter moves. It is an essential control for maneuvering the helicopter in flight.
